Latter-day Saints have played important roles in California History. A group of a few hundred Mormon converts from the Northeastern United States and Europe arrived at what would become San Francisco in the 1840s aboard the ship Brooklyn, more than doubling the population of the small town. The land boom of the 1920s attracted many members to California. Today, along with seven temples, California has more missions than any other state.

The county is famous for its tourism, as the home of such attractions as Disneyland and Knott’s Berry Farm, and several beaches along its more than 40 miles of coastline. This unique region has a vibrant yet laid-back vibe, a creative spirit and a diverse range of activities that make it one of the nation’s most popular destinations.
